I’m so excited to share the updated version of one of my most popular crochet patterns! If you’ve been following Maisie and Ruth for a while, you may already know these booties as my Fast Crochet Baby Booties. They have now been refreshed, expanded, and officially renamed the Cozy Steps Booties.
Below, you’ll find clear instructions to guide you through each step. If you’d like to keep the pattern handy, you can buy the ad-free, printable PDF version here.

- Multiple Sizes Included: Pattern includes instructions for various baby ages.
- Adorably Cute: These little booties are irresistibly sweet—ideal for baby showers or newborn gifts.
- Quick to Make: Whip up a pair in a couple of hours—great for last-minute handmade presents.
- No Sewing Required: Seamless construction for a clean, polished look.
- Customizable: Easily adjust colours, yarn types, or embellishments to suit any baby’s style.
What’s New?
The original yarn used for this pattern has unfortunately been discontinued, so I’ve remade the booties using readily available yarns. The result is the same cozy, comfortable design that crocheters have loved for years, with updated photos, improved sizing, and a brand-new name.
I’ve also expanded the pattern to include more sizes, making it easier than ever to create matching booties for babies and toddlers.
The original version of this pattern was made using a yarn that has since been discontinued.
Size Range
The Cozy Steps Booties pattern is now available in 8 sizes, ranging from newborn to 2 years:
- Newborn
- 0–3 Months
- 3–6 Months
- 6–9 Months
- 9–12 Months
- 12 Months
- 18 Months
- 2 Years
Whether you’re making a baby shower gift, a coming-home outfit, or cozy footwear for a growing toddler, there’s a size to suit.
Yarn Used
For the smaller sizes (newborn, 0–3 months and 3–6 months), I used Stylecraft Bambino DK, a soft, premium acrylic yarn that is gentle against delicate skin and available in a beautiful range of baby-friendly shades.
For the larger sizes (6–9 months through to 2 years), I used Caron Simply Soft, a worsted weight yarn known for its silky feel, excellent drape, and durability.
The pattern has been written using two different yarn weights to ensure each size achieves the correct finished measurements. Be sure to check the materials list before beginning your project, and use the recommended yarn weight and hook size for the size you are making.
Quick & Beginner Friendly
These simple crochet booties work up quickly, making them a wonderful last-minute gift or market make.
They feature a classic folded cuff, a comfortable fit, and straightforward construction that is suitable for confident beginners and beyond.
They really do work up super fast and I’m confident that they’ll become your favourite, go-to baby booties pattern when you need a last-minute baby shower gift!

Yarn Substitutes
If you can’t get hold of the yarns I used for this project, don’t worry! There are plenty of excellent alternatives that will produce beautiful results.

- Premier Yarns Anti-Pilling Everyday DK
- Paintbox Yarns Anti-Pilling DK
- Nako Elit Baby (available on Etsy)
For the worsted weight (Weight 4 / 10 ply) sizes (6–9 months through 2 years), suitable substitutes include:
Whichever yarn you choose, be sure to use the recommended yarn weight for your chosen size and check your gauge before starting to ensure the best fit.

Pattern Notes
- Instructions are written in standard US crochet terminology.
- Please read through the entire pattern before beginning.
- The pattern is written in two separate sets of instructions: one for newborn, 0–3 months, 3–6 months, 6–9 months and 9–12 months; and one for 12 months, 18 months and 2 years. The yarn weight and hook size vary depending on the size being made, so please refer carefully to the materials section below for the correct information for your chosen size.
- There is no separate left or right bootie. The same instructions are used to make both booties, so simply repeat the pattern to create a matching pair.
- The booties are worked from the sole upwards in joined rounds.
- There are three main stages: 1. Create the oval sole 2. Simultaneously shape the toe and sides 3. Form the cuff.
- The ch1 and ch3 at the beginning of each round do not count as a stitch. Therefore, you should make the first stitch of the round in the same stitch (at the base of the ch1 or ch3).
- As the ch1 or ch3 at the beginning of rounds does not count as a stitch, you should join the round by making a slip stitch into the very first double crochet or single crochet of the round.
- When counting the total number of stitches at the end of each round, please be careful not to include the ch1 or ch3 in the final stitch count.
- If you are new to crochet, consider placing a stitch marker in the top of the beginning double crochet or single crochet of each round. This will help you easily locate the final stitch to slip stitch into at the end of the round.

I absolutely love this pattern I have only been crocheting for a few weeks and I posted my first pair on Facebook and within 30 seconds someone messaged me asking how much I wanted for them.
That’s great! You’ll be so pleased! 👏
And I’m really happy to hear that you like the pattern too 🥰
Happy crocheting, keep up the good work!
Good morning Amanda 🙂 I have to say, you are a great teacher !! Your calming voice is everything that I need to work on all over again and again when I made some mistakes . Thank you 🙂
Thank you very much! I’m so pleased to hear that you’re enjoying my tutorials and like my style of teaching! 🥰 Enjoy the rest of your week 💞
I am new to crochet. Yours instructions have helped me so much. Could these booties be made in an adult size? Thank you for all your help!
Welcome to the crochet community! That’s great, I’m so pleased that you’re enjoying my patterns! 😀
I’m glad you like the booties but I’ve only designed them for babies at the moment.
I have had quite a few requests for adult boots so this is something I will look at designing in the future 💞
Do you have a tutorial for adult booties or socks?
Unfortunately not – I only have baby shoes at the moment 💞
Hi thereI am trying to print a free pattern for baby bootees to use as a reminder while I am crocheting. I cannot seem to print this without loosing half the instuctions and I can’t see where it actually says to print on your pattern. I am in my late seventies and not very tech minded but havn’t had this trouble on previous printed patterns. I can watch it on youtube but just need a printed reminder of where I am in pattern. I am quite new to crochet (learned from watching youtube during pandemic). Please help. Can you perhaps just email me a straightforward copy – easy to print. I really would apreciate your help. The pattern is for the fold over cuffs ones. Thank you and I love your videos – so easy to follow.
Hi Anne,
I’m so pleased to hear that you like my designs and find the video tutorials easy to follow! 😀
Unfortunately, I don’t have a PDF pattern for you to print off at the moment.
I’ve had quite a lot of requests for this so I hope to create printable versions of my patterns and offer them on Etsy and Ravelry etc soon.
Sorry I can’t help you out for now.
Amanda
