If you would like to learn how to increase in crochet (with any stitch), read on for my quick and easy tutorial below!
PURPOSE OF INCREASING IN CROCHET
If you want to make amigurumi, bags, garments and anything else that requires shaping, you will need to know how to increase.
Crochet increases are worked when you want to widen a crochet piece.
They are very easy to do… to make one you simply work two or three stitches in the same place.
Increases can be made at any point when you’re working in the round or along a row.
ABBREVIATIONS FOR CROCHET INCREASES
If you’re making an item and the crochet pattern requires you to make an increase, it can be abbreviated in a few different ways. For the examples below, I will use the single crochet (sc) stitch and the double crochet (dc) stitch.
Some common abbreviations for the single crochet increase are:
- 2sc in next st
- sc inc
- inc in next st
Some common abbreviations for the double crochet increase are:
- 2dc in next st
- dc inc
- inc in next st
Let’s get started and see how easy it is to work up this technique…
