PRACTICAL YET STYLISH!

In addition to keeping tiny fingers warm during the colder weather, mittens also prevent baby from scratching themselves.

These warm crochet baby mittens are a great way of protecting baby from sharp nails, whilst keeping their hands nice and toasty at the same time!

And they’re right on trend too, with a stylish fur cuff and little ties to stop them from falling off.

PATTERN NOTES
  • US crochet terminology used throughout.
  • There are two sets of instructions: 1. Preemie 2. Newborn, 0-3 months & 3-6 months.
  • Use the hook size according to the size of mitten that you wish to make (details below in ‘Materials’).
  • You can make these mittens using any #3 / light worsted / DK / 8 ply yarn. Please make sure that you check your gauge / tension beforehand (see ‘Gauge / Tension’ section below).
  • The mittens are worked in the round from the hand area up towards the wrist.
  • For beginners, it will be helpful to place a stitch marker in the first stitch made at the beginning of each round. This will ensure that you slip stitch into the correct stitch when joining at the end of the round.
MATERIALS
GAUGE / TENSION

To check your gauge / tension, work the first three rounds of the relevant pattern below.

To check that you’re okay for size, the diameter (approx.) of the mitten after these three rounds should measure as follows:

Preemie: 4cm

Newborn: 4.5cm

0-3 months: 4.75cm

3-6 months: 5cm

If your work is too small, try using a larger hook. If your work is too big, try using a smaller hook.

FINISHED SIZE

Newborn: W – 5.5cm; L – 9cm

0-3 months: W – 6cm; L – 10cm

Change to Yarn B

Attach yarn to last stitch worked.

Round 10. Ch2 (counts as your 1st dc), 1dc in next 20 sts, sl st to sp between beg ch 2 and 1st dc to join [21 dc].

NOTE: Starting from row 11, you’ll work your double crochet stitches in the spaces in between each stitch. You will need to feel your way with the fluffy yarn as it’s difficult to see your stitches. Please take care not to inadvertently work 2 stitches into the same space as this will cause your work to flare / ruffle out.

Rounds 11 & 12. Ch2 (counts as your 1st dc), 1dc in next 20 sps, sl st to sp between beg ch 2 and 1st dc to join [21 sts].

Cut yarn, fasten off and weave in ends.

Ch 63

Cut yarn and weave each tail end in (I weaved the ends in and out of the back loops to hide them).

Weave the tie in and out through the spaces in between each stitch in round 9. You can see how I did this in the video tutorial above (with the aid of a safety pin).
