ADORABLE BABY SET
If you would like to make something last minute for a new arrival or upcoming baby shower, then the pattern for these baby mittens will be ideal.
You can make them solely on their own, or pair them with the matching bobble stitch hat and / or baby booties for the cutest handmade baby gift.
There’s also a matching cardigan, and the softest and squishiest bobble stitch baby blanket.
The last two items take just a little more time to make but are definitely worth the extra effort… you’ll be so pleased with the finished result!
EASY & MODERN DESIGN
These bobble crochet baby mittens are offered in 4 sizes: preemie, newborn, 0-3 months and 3-6 months.
Worked in the round, you’ll begin making them from the finger / hand section up towards the cuff.
The main body of the mitten is made using the half double crochet stitch. The texture created by this stitch is nice and compact… there are certainly no big holes for little fingers to stick out through!
Two rounds of bobble stitches are worked around the wrist area, followed by three rounds of a stretchy ribbed cuff. You’ll be able to get these little mitts on and off baby with ease.

PATTERN NOTES
- US crochet terminology used throughout.
- There are two sets of instructions: 1. Preemie 2. Newborn, 0-3 & 3-6 months.
- Use the hook size according to the size of mitten that you wish to make (details below in ‘Materials’).
- You can make these mittens using any #3 / light worsted / DK / 8 ply yarn. Please make sure that you check your gauge / tension beforehand (see ‘Gauge / Tension’ section below).
- The mittens are worked in the round from the hand area up towards the wrist.
- For beginners, it will be helpful to place a stitch marker in the first stitch made at the beginning of each round. This will ensure that you slip stitch into the correct stitch when joining at the end of the round.
- When working the bobble stitch pattern, you will be instructed to TURN your work and work into the 1st stitch of the round. It can be tricky to know which stitch to work into first; the easiest way to remember this is to work your first stitch into the 3rd chain from the hook.
MATERIALS
- YARN: Category #3 / light worsted / DK / 8 ply yarn. I used a scrap amount from 1 ball of Paintbox Yarns Baby DK, 183 yds / 1.8 oz (167m / 50g).
- CROCHET HOOKS:
Preemie – 3mm; Newborn – 3mm; 0-3 months – E (3.5mm); 3-6 months – G (4mm) - Yarn needle (the bent tip makes sewing much easier)
- Scissors (super sharp… and pretty)
- Stitch marker (these interlocking ones will not fall out!)
GAUGE / TENSION
To check your gauge / tension, work the first three rounds of the relevant pattern below.
To check that you’re okay for size, the diameter (approx.) of the mitten after these three rounds should measure as follows:
Preemie: 4cm
Newborn: 4.5cm
0-3 months: 4.75cm
3-6 months: 5cm
If your work is too small, try using a larger hook. If your work is too big, try using a smaller hook.
FINISHED SIZE
Preemie: W – 5cm; L – 8cm
Newborn: W – 5.5cm; L – 9cm
0-3 months: W – 6cm; L – 10cm
3-6 months: W – 6.5cm; L – 11cm
