Yarn Used

For the Little Cloud Booties, I used James C. Brett Flutterby Chunky, a wonderfully soft chenille yarn that gives these booties their plush, cloud-like texture. This chunky (weight 5 / 12 ply) yarn is known for its velvety feel and gentle softness, making it ideal for baby projects that sit close to delicate skin.

It works up quickly and creates a thick, cozy fabric that helps keep tiny toes warm and snug, while still feeling lightweight and comfortable for little ones to wear.

Yarn Substitutes

If you’re unable to find James C. Brett Flutterby Chunky, you can substitute it with other chunky (weight 5) chenille yarns that have a similar soft, plush texture. When choosing a substitute, look for velvety baby blanket yarns that create a cozy fabric while still feeling gentle against delicate skin.

Good alternatives include:

As with any yarn substitution, it’s a good idea to check your gauge and adjust your hook size if needed to ensure the finished booties fit correctly. Using a comparable plush yarn will help maintain the same soft, cloud-like feel that makes these booties so cozy.

Alongside the Little Cloud Booties, you can also make the Snuggle Bear Kids Hoodie, Cozy Cloud Mittens, Cozy Cloud Beanie, and the Snuggle Cloud Blanket. Each pattern is designed to complement the others, making it easy to create a beautifully coordinated set of handmade items that are perfect for gifts and keeping little ones extra cozy.

Pattern Notes

  • Quick tip: read these notes first… it’ll make everything easier!
  • US standard crochet terms are used throughout.
  • Take time to check gauge before starting the project (details below).
  • One set of instructions only. The bootie can be worn on either foot.
  • Numbers given are for smallest size, with numbers for larger sizes in ( ) brackets . E.g. newborn (0–3 mos: 3–6 mos: 6–12 mos: 12–18 mos: 18–24 mos).
  • Circle the size you wish to make beforehand (both stitch and row counts). You can buy and print out the pattern here
  • The ch1 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch. Therefore, you should make the first stitch of the round in the same stitch (at the base of the ch1).
  • As the ch1 at the beginning of rounds does not count as a stitch, you should join the round by making a slip stitch into the very first stitch of the round.
  • When counting the total number of stitches at the end of each round, please be careful not to include the ch1 in the final stitch count.
  • For beginners, it will be helpful to place a stitch marker in the first stitch made at the beginning of each round. This will ensure that you slip stitch into this particular stitch when joining at the end of the round.
