YARN USED
These chunky crochet baby booties were worked up using James C. Brett Flutterby Chunky, a wonderfully soft and cosy chenille yarn.
I loved using this brand – so much so that I designed a hooded cardigan, and a baby teddy hat using this super soft yarn!
There’s also a matching baby blanket to go with the set (made with the super chunky version).
I’m sure you’ll enjoy working with this yarn just as much as I did. And I’m sure you’ll love the colour selection on offer also… the variety of pastel shades is simply gorgeous.
These baby booties are part of a set consisting of a hooded cardigan, hat and blanket.
Let’s dive in now and take a look at how we can work up these adorable chunky baby booties…

CHUNKY CROCHET BABY BOOTIES: A FREE PATTERN

Please carefully read all the information below.
LEVEL
Easy. For details of project levels, please see the Craft Yarn Council.
MATERIALS
- Yarn: Category #5 / chunky / bulky / 12 ply yarn. I used some scrap yarn from 1 ball of James C. Brett Flutterby Chunky, 191 yds / 3.5 oz (175m / 100g). Colours featured in the photos: Blue (3); pink (2); lilac (10); beige (28); yellow (9)
- Crochet hook: J (6mm) (these hooks are great for this type of yarn)
- Yarn needle (the bent tip makes sewing and weaving in ends much easier)
- Scissors (super sharp… and pretty)
GAUGE / TENSION
To check your gauge / tension, work the first two rounds of the pattern below.
To check that you’re okay for size, the length of your sole (which is also the completed length of your baby bootie) should measure as follows:
Newborn: 3” (8cm)
0–3 months: 3.5″ (9cm)
3-6 months: 4″ (10cm)
STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS (US CROCHET TERMS)

PATTERN NOTES
- US crochet terminology used throughout.
- There are instructions for three sizes – newborn, 0-3 months and 3-6 months.
- The bootie is made in rounds.
- The ch1 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch. Therefore, you should make the first stitch of the round in the same stitch (at the base of the ch1).
- As the ch1 at the beginning of rounds does not count as a stitch, you should join the round by making a slip stitch into the very first stitch of the round.
- When counting the total number of stitches at the end of each round, please be careful not to include the ch1 in the final stitch count.
- For beginners, it will be helpful to place a stitch marker in the first stitch made at the beginning of each round to ensure that you slip stitch into this particular stitch when joining at the end of the round.

Happy crocheting,

I just made the booties while in the hospital awaiting the arrival of my new grandson! I’d love to make the hat with the ear flaps, and the hoodie. Where can I get the pattern? Thanks for the great video tutorial. You are very good teacher! Love hearing your accent!
I’m so glad that you enjoyed the booties pattern! I’ve just released the hoodie pattern: https://maisieandruth.com/crochet-baby-hoodie-with-ears-free-pattern/ I’m working on the hat pattern and video tutorial now, and I’m hoping to release it over the holidays. Thanks so much for your interest and I hope you enjoy working up the additional items for your new Grandson… many congratulations! 💝
Love love love this pattern, will you be making patterns for bigger sizes? 3-6 and 6-9 would be fabulous. I am nowhere near clever enough to size up without a pattern. I have just found your patterns on YouTube and I don’t know where to start! 😀
Thank you! I’m so glad that you like the design! Yes, I do plan on publishing more sizes (probably up to 12 months of age). Thanks so much for watching my YouTube tutorials… Happy Holidays to you! 💝
How can I get a printed copy?
Thanks so much for your interest however I haven’t created PDFs of my patterns yet – sorry.
Adorable!!! I can’t wait to make the whole set!
Thank you, Amanda!
You’re very welcome, Jennifer! So glad that you like the set! 🥰
