About the Cozy Cloud Mittens
The Cozy Cloud Mittens are soft, warm crochet mittens designed to keep little hands snug and comfortable. Made with plush, chunky chenille yarn, these mittens have a fluffy, cloud-like texture that feels wonderfully soft against the skin. They’re perfect for chilly days and make a sweet addition to any handmade winter wardrobe for babies and children.
Thanks to the chunky yarn, these fast crochet baby mittens work up quickly and create a cozy fabric that helps keep little fingers warm. The simple design makes them a relaxing project whether you’re crocheting for everyday wear, thoughtful handmade gifts, or preparing cozy winter accessories for little ones.
Updated Pattern and Expanded Sizes
The Cozy Cloud Mittens pattern has recently been updated to include expanded sizing.
The pattern now includes the following sizes:
- Newborn
- 0–3 months
- 3–6 months
- 6–12 months
Ribbed Cuff and Ties
The Cozy Cloud Mittens feature a soft ribbed cuff that helps create a snug, comfortable fit around little wrists. This stretchy cuff helps keep warmth in while also helping the mittens stay securely in place, which is especially helpful for babies who love to wiggle and move.
Each mitten also includes simple crochet ties, allowing you to gently secure the mittens so they’re less likely to slip off or get lost. This thoughtful detail helps keep little hands warm during stroller walks or outdoor play while giving parents extra peace of mind that the mittens will stay put.
Together, the ribbed cuff and ties make these mittens both practical and cozy, while still keeping the design sweet and simple.
Part of the Cloud Collection
The Cozy Cloud Mittens are part of the cozy and coordinated Cloud Collection of crochet patterns. This collection features a range of plush chenille designs created to keep babies and children warm and comfortable.
Alongside the mittens, you can also crochet the Snuggle Bear Kids Hoodie, Cozy Cloud Beanie, Little Cloud Booties, and the Snuggle Cloud Blanket. Each pattern complements the others beautifully, making it easy to create a complete handmade set of cozy, cloud-soft pieces.
Yarn Used
For this design, I used James C. Brett Flutterby Chunky, a beautifully soft chenille yarn that gives the mittens their signature plush texture. This chunky yarn is velvety soft and gentle against the skin, making it ideal for baby and children’s accessories. It works up quickly and creates a cozy, warm fabric that’s perfect for cold-weather projects.
The range of colours on offer is gorgeous too – so many pretty shades to choose from.
Yarn Substitutes
If you can’t find James C. Brett Flutterby Chunky, you can substitute other chunky (weight 5 / 12 ply) chenille yarns with a similar plush texture. Look for velvety baby blanket yarns that create a soft fabric that feels gentle against the skin.
Good alternatives include:
When substituting yarns, it’s always a good idea to check your gauge and adjust your hook size if necessary to ensure the mittens fit correctly.
